How It Works

From setup to certification

A clear, structured process designed for councils rolling out across multiple schools and organisations. From council onboarding to age-banded learner content, assessment, and certification.

The Process

Four stages, one platform

The BCSA platform handles the entire lifecycle from council onboarding to learner certification.

Council Sets Up

Your council account is created with your branding, structure, and preferences.

Tenants Created

Schools, departments, or partner organisations are added as separate tenants.

Learners Invited

Cohorts of learners receive invite links or access codes. No sign-up needed.

Reports Generated

Completion dashboards, certificates, and exports are available in real-time.

Learner Access

No accounts, no passwords

Learners access the programme instantly via invite links or access codes.

Invite Link

A unique URL is generated for each cohort. Learners click the link, enter their first name and last initial, and begin immediately.

Access Code

A short alphanumeric code is shared with learners (e.g. on a whiteboard). They enter it on the platform landing page to start.

Content

Age-banded learning content

Content is tailored to learner age and context, with appropriate language, scenarios, and complexity.

Years 5-6

Primary-level content with simple language, familiar scenarios (school run, park paths), and visual-heavy learning.

Years 7-9

Lower secondary content introducing junction types, road positioning, and independent journey planning.

Years 10-11

Upper secondary content covering complex junctions, shared spaces, and responsibility as a road user.

Employers

Adult content focused on commuting hazards, duty of care context, and workplace-relevant scenarios.

Assessment methodology

Each age band has a tailored assessment with randomised questions drawn from a larger question bank. Learners need approximately 70% correct answers to pass. Retake attempts are limited to prevent rote learning, and each retake draws a different set of questions. Pass/fail status, scores, and completion dates are recorded for reporting.

Structure

Multi-organisation hierarchy

A clear access model designed for councils managing multiple schools and organisations.

1

BCSA

Manages the central portal with oversight across all organisations.

2

Organisation (School / Employer)

Each school or employer operates as its own branch with isolated users, data, and reports.

3

School Admins

Manage their branch: upload learners, view reports, and print certificates.

4

Teachers

Manage their own classes and monitor learner progress within their cohort.

5

Learners

Access only their own courses and results. No visibility into other learners or organisations.

School-controlled from start to finish

No open self-registration. No public profiles. Every learner is invited by their school or organisation. Access is controlled entirely by the commissioning body.
