For Schools

Safety Education That Fits Into Your School Day

Deliver RSHE-aligned cycle and scooter safety education with minimal teacher workload. Short digital lessons, a clear assessment, and certificates your pupils can be proud of -- with the safeguarding and Ofsted evidence built in.

Context

Why this matters for your school

Cycle and scooter safety is becoming a statutory requirement. Here's what's changing.

RSHE 2026 Statutory Requirement

The updated Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) guidance, effective from September 2026, includes road safety as a required topic within the Health Education strand. Schools will need to evidence how they deliver this content.

Ofsted Safeguarding Judgement

Ofsted’s safeguarding judgement is binary: effective or not effective. Schools need to demonstrate that any third-party platform used with pupils meets safeguarding standards, including data minimisation and age-appropriate design.

Complements Bikeability

BCSA certification provides the theoretical knowledge component that complements Bikeability’s practical on-road training. Together, they offer a complete cycle safety education covering both hazard awareness and bike handling skills.

Modeshift STARS Evidence

Schools working towards Modeshift STARS accreditation can use BCSA completion data as evidence of road safety education delivery within their travel plan.

Ofsted Personal Development and Well-being

From November 2025, Ofsted grades 'Personal development and well-being' on a five-point scale. BCSA supports this judgement by providing the 'wider opportunities and experiences' and 'keeping physically healthy and safe' evidence that inspectors look for.

Learner Journey

What learners do

A short, focused experience designed for young people.

Step 1

Short Lessons

Learners work through focused, scenario-based modules on their device. Each module takes 10-15 minutes.

Step 2

Assessment

A short, timed assessment checks understanding of key road hazards, junctions, and safe riding behaviours.

Step 3

Certificate

Successful learners receive a unique, dated certificate they can download or share. Schools receive a class summary.

Age-banded content

Content is tailored to three age bands: Years 5-6 (primary), Years 7-9 (lower secondary), and Years 10-11 (upper secondary). Each band uses age-appropriate language, scenarios, and complexity levels. The assessment requires approximately 70% correct answers to pass, with randomised questions and limited retake attempts.

For Teachers & Admins

Minimal workload for your staff

We've designed the admin experience to take minutes, not hours.

Class Management

Add learners by class or year group. Share invite links or access codes -- no individual accounts needed.

Progress & Reminders

See which learners have started, completed, or need a nudge. Send reminders with one click.

Completion Reports

Download class-level reports showing completion rates, pass/fail status, and common areas of difficulty.

Safeguarding

Safeguarded by design

Data minimisation, no tracking, and age-appropriate design throughout.

Data Minimisation

We collect only the minimum data needed: first name, last initial, and school. No email addresses, dates of birth, or photos.

No Tracking

No third-party analytics, advertising, or behavioural tracking on the learner-facing platform. No cookies beyond the essential session cookie.

Age-Appropriate Design

The learner interface follows age-appropriate design principles with clear language, simple navigation, and no dark patterns.

DPIA-Ready

We provide a DPIA starter template for your Data Protection Officer. The template covers BCSA-specific data flows and can be completed in under an hour.

Our platform is designed with reference to the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code) and aligns with the safeguarding requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025. BCSA staff who attend school settings hold current DBS checks, and the platform ensures no unsupervised adult access to children through our systems.

For Parents

Questions parents might ask

What data does my child need to provide?

Only a first name and last initial. No email, date of birth, or photo is required.

Is the platform safe for children?

Yes. There is no advertising, no third-party tracking, and no social features. The platform follows age-appropriate design standards.

What happens to the data afterwards?

Data is retained for the duration of the school's contract plus 12 months, then securely deleted. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
